The Garden Theatre takes you back to the ’90s with “Cruel Intentions” musical

HOUSTON – Celebrate like it’s 1999 as Houston’s Garden Theatre takes you back to the ’90s with the return of “Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical.” This lively production combines the iconic story with a soundtrack full of ’90s pop hits for a night of nostalgia and entertainment.

Based on the 1999 cult classic film starring Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Geller, the musical follows step-siblings Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil. They make a daring bet to seduce the innocent Annette Hargrove, setting off a high-stakes game where the only rule is never to fall in love.

The show features songs from ’90s stars such as Christina Aguilera, *NSYNC, Britney Spears and Boyz II Men, delivering an energetic and memorable theater experience.

“Houston Life” viewers are in for a treat. The cast of the show is stopping by “Houston Life” with a preview. See them perform first Tuesday, Dec. 23 at on KPRC 2 or in the streaming video above starting at 1 p.m.

“Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical” runs Dec. 26, 2025, through Jan. 11, 2026, at Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH), 3400 Main St. Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for students and seniors. Click here to get your ticket now.

Plus, there will be a special New Year’s Eve performance beginning at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31, followed by a ’90s-themed party with an open bar for guests 21 and older, karaoke, dancing, a champagne toast and light bites. New Year’s Eve tickets are $55 for adults and $40 for those under 21.
