Houston Haven: A home away from home for families facing cancer

HOUSTON – KPRC 2 has teamed up with our community partners at Energy Transfer and Houston Christian University to highlight Houston Haven.

This 501(c)(3) ministry provides low-cost, short-term housing to out-of-town cancer patients and their families while they receive care at the Texas Medical Center.

More than a roof and a bed, Houston Haven offers restful, supported spaces where families can focus on treatment, recovery and one another. The nonprofit partners closely with local organizations to meet basic needs and reduce the financial and emotional burden of traveling for care.

Jane Nodskov, the founder of Houston Haven, shared the mission behind the organization on Houston Life. She was also joined by Abbey Schwarz, who was staying in one of Houston Haven’s homes while her daughter underwent treatment.
