HOUSTON – Houston nightlife has entered its supper club era...and it’s doing it with a swing.
Tucked inside the historic Tower Theatre on Westheimer, Doc’s Houston is the city’s newest destination for live jazz, elevated dining, and the kind of intentional glamour that begs you to dress up and stay out late. Think cabaret seating, candlelight, expertly mixed cocktails, and musicians who know exactly how to command a room.
This isn’t background music jazz. This is the main event.
A Proven Concept, Now in Houston
Doc’s Houston comes from jazz pianist Brent “Doc” Watkins, a classically trained musician with advanced degrees in music and a serious track record. Watkins is also the founder of Jazz, TX, the wildly successful San Antonio supper club that’s long been considered one of the gold standards for live jazz venues in Texas.
With Doc’s Houston, Watkins is expanding that vision - and filling a noticeable gap in Houston’s live music scene.
The concept is simple, but intentional: a modern supper club inspired by the classics, where world-class musicianship meets gourmet food and cocktails. Dinner is paired with ticketed performances, ensuring that the focus stays where it belongs - on the music, the atmosphere, and the experience as a whole.
The Sound of the Room
Behind the scenes, the creative direction is led by Graeme Franklin, percussionist and Artistic Director of Doc’s Houston. Franklin and Watkins go way back - longtime friends, college buddies, and musical collaborators whose shared history shows up in the club’s tight programming and cohesive vibe.
The lineup spans jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and more, with performances designed to feel immersive rather than incidental. This is the kind of place where the lights dim, conversations hush, and the room moves together.
Dinner, Drinks, and Dressing Up
The menu leans upscale and unapologetic, with dishes like empanadas stuffed with 24-hour-long-slow-cooked braised beef, tender pulpo, and flavorful tuna tartare anchoring a full fine-dining experience. Cocktails are crafted, not rushed. And yes, this is a dress-up spot. Guests are encouraged (gently, stylishly) to lean into the moment and make a night of it.
It’s not nostalgic for nostalgia’s sake. It’s a reimagining - vintage glamour with modern polish.
A Very Jazzy New Year’s Eve
If you’re looking for a New Year’s Eve plan that doesn’t involve shouting over a DJ or elbowing your way to midnight, Doc’s Houston is offering a far more elegant alternative.
The club will ring in the New Year with special performances by acclaimed jazz vocalist Tianna Hall, whose soulful, magnetic presence is tailor-made for the supper club stage. Expect live jazz, elevated dining, a festive crowd, and a countdown that feels celebratory rather than chaotic.
Why It Matters
Houston has no shortage of great restaurants and music venues - but Doc’s Houston sits in a rare overlap. It’s a place where music lovers, food lovers, and nightlife lovers can all agree: this is the vibe.
Old-school glamour is back. Jazz is having a moment. And Montrose just got a little more seductive after dark.
