Musician HOHYUN’s new visual album is 100% independent and about healing

Petrichor is set to be released on November 7 with Houston screenings to be announced

Houston – Houston musician HOHYUN returned to Houston Life to share Petrichor, his self-made visual album set to release on November 7.

The album was written, recorded, and directed by the musician over the past year and grew out of a personal turning point following seeking treatment for depression, anxiety, and an ADHD diagnosis. That experience shaped the songs and the imagery, turning private recovery into a public work of art.

HOHYUN says Petrichor is more than an album. Every track has a corresponding visual, with the Houston premiere planned as a full-length screening, allowing fans to watch and listen in sequence. He appeared on Houston Life for the third time since making his musical debut in 2019. This time, he performed “FLAWED.” It’s the lead single from his upcoming album, and he talked to Houston Life co-hosts Derrick Shore and Tessa Barrera about the logistical and creative challenges of producing the entire project without label support. He described the process as exhausting but liberating: total creative control from concept to camera. The creative and filmmaking side to the project comes easily to him, as that was his passion before finding music.

HOHYUN also reflected on how openness about mental health has resonated with fans, especially young Asian men. He said the response at shows has been emotional and affirming saying audience members approach him afterward to share their own stories.

You can catch him headlining Korean Festival Houston this weekend at Discovery Green and watch for Petrichor on Nov. 7.
