HOUSTON – Texas Country Soul artist Josh Weathers is known for his powerhouse voice and electric stage presence. He’s also known for using his platform to give back.
In the immediate aftermath of the devastating Hill Country floods in July, Josh and his team quickly mobilized to raise more than a half million dollars to support flood relief efforts. They had been on their way to perform at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, but due to the flooding they turned around and organized a virtual concert as a fundraiser.
“My goal was what I thought was lofty; it was like $150,000,” said Josh, who, along with his band, very quickly exceeded the $500,000 mark.
Since then, Josh has been on a mission trip to El Salvador and is now on a month-long tour throughout the U.S.
Spending time on the road is nothing new for Josh. Before graduating high school, the Arlington native moved many times -- attending 11 different schools, including Creekwood Middle School in Kingwood, where his 6th grade choir teacher, Mrs. Fort, told him he could sing.
It wasn’t until years later that he decided to seriously pursue music.
“I was a freshman in college, and I found a guitar in a buddy’s garage, it was kind of falling apart,” said Josh, who took the guitar to his uncle, who refurbished the guitar with a new set of strings.
