She’s living with MS, he survived Polio. Together they’re riding for a cure

Andrea Bedoy will ride for herself while Juan Pinzon will ride for the 21st time for his uncle

Houston – Every year, thousands of cyclists participate in the Bike MS: ACC Texas MS 150, the largest fundraising cycling event in the world. For two Houston riders, Andrea Bedoy and Juan Pinzon, this journey is far more than just miles.

At just 25 years old, Andrea was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) after experiencing sudden and then total vision loss while on a hiking trip. Though the diagnosis turned her world upside down, she found strength through community and the MS Society. “I went from feeling completely alone to meeting people just like me—living full, inspiring lives,” she shared. Now on treatment, she’s not only riding again but also applying to medical school, with a focus in neurology that is driven by a renewed sense of purpose to help others like her.

Juan, a polio survivor, is riding in his 21st MS 150 in honor of his uncle, who is currently living with MS. Inspired by his father, a professional cyclist, Juan overcame childhood physical challenges to become a team captain, dedicated volunteer, and board member for the MS Society. Over the years, he’s raised more than $300,000 to fund research and support for those battling MS.

Andrea and Juan have different stories, but, this weekend, they will ride for one purpose.
