Meet the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law business partners on a mission to empower women

HOUSTON – When Stephanie Tsuru and her daughter-in-law Katie Tsuru decided to open a business together, a few people were surprised, mostly because of the negative stereotypes associated with in-laws.

“No one wants to have anything to do with their mother-in-law, let alone choose to work with them,” Stephanie said in jest.

In fact, Katie and Stephanie say they make great business partners because they know each other well.

“Going into business with any person as a partner is something you have to think about; we work on it and respect each other and I think that’s the most important thing,” said Katie.

Five years ago, the pair set out to design and construct SheSpace: a work, meeting and event space where women from all different industries can gather and work together under one roof.

“We have every industry imaginable inside SheSpace, which is what makes it so much fun. You could have a veterinarian working right next to a cardiologist who’s sitting right next to a woman who has her own construction company, film company, and it just goes on and on,” says Stephanie.

Watch our interview with this dynamic duo to learn more about how their own challenges in life inspired them to create SheSpace.
