Give a gift that will grow this holiday season

HOUSTON – Still shopping for holiday gifts?

If you really want to stand out this holiday season – think green!

There are so many great options when it comes to plants and garden-centered products that work for everyone on your list.

And you don’t have to have a green thumb to appreciate them!

Jen McDonald, from Houston’s Garden Girls, shares her top local picks at different price points.

For the hostess:

Trader Joe’s has an array of seasonal plants that are not only easy to care for, but can be planted directly in your own garden and enjoyed year round.  All under $20.

Jen’s guide for topiaries:

- Rosemary topiary (ready to use!)

- Lavender topiary (spa smell for relaxation)

- Christmas cactus (easy/little maintenance)

- Paperwhites (one and done)

For the practical gardener:

Bering’s has a fantastic selection of tools, seeds, fertilizers, candles!

You know you’re a practical gardener when you squeal with joy over receiving a bottle of fish fertilizer!

You can also pick up a copy of Johnny Carrabba’s newest cookbook, “A gift from the heart,” available ONLY at Bering’s and Carrabba’s restaurants. Truly garden to table with Johnny growing his own lettuce and Swiss chard!

For the fancy gardener:

Courtney Paddock of Little Coterie Shop, (and a gardener herself), has a beautifully curated collection of garden centered products - including Flamingo Estate hand soap, lotion, candles (beautiful packaging, smells great), Harvest baskets (so pretty you’ll want to hang it on your wall), and a Linen apron (almost makes you want to cook).

For the gardener ready to take things to the next level:

Jen and her team from The Garden Girls offer gift certificates for consultations to help clients grow their own gardens at home. Before you know it, you could be creating your own salad garden, right in your own backyard, with their help - of course!
