Houston Chef Seth Siegel-Gardner’s delicious recipe for Hanukkah latkes and festive cocktails

HOUSTON – Hanukkah is well underway, and that means a whole lot of fun, family, food and drinks!

One of the centerpieces of the holiday is potato latkes. Teaching us how to make them is one of Houston’s top chefs -- you may know him from his time at Houston’s iconic Pass and Provisions restaurant, Seth Siegel Gardner.

He opened and ran Pass and Provisions with Terrance Gallivan and decided to close it after a successful 7 year run.

Seth went on to open his own spirit company The Marfa Spirit Company and he also is the culinary and creative director for Local Foods, Lees Den, and Eau Tour.

Latkes are a staple while celebrating Hanukkah, but why latkes? The simple answer is that they’re meant to remind us of the miracle of the oil that lasted eight days associated with Hanukkah.

The Tom and Jerry drink is a holiday favorite in my family. The batter makes an excellent topping for both alcoholic cocktails as well as hot cocoa, eggnog, or warm milk for the kids.

The Tom and Jerry cocktail is a holiday favorite that’s been around for about 200 years. It’s a rum based drink. What makes it so yummy is the texture – which is why this delicious and fluffy beverage is perfect for the holidays.

Watch as Lauren and Seth make some of these traditional Hanukkah goodies.
