The Life of Dr. Maya Angelou makes it to the stage in ‘Phenomenal Woman’

HOUSTON – Houston Life chats with the three actresses portraying poet and activist Maya Angelou in ‘Phenomenal Woman,’ a new production coming to The Ensemble Theatre on June 29.

Elizabeth Flax, LaKeisha Randle, and Manniah Harris weigh in on what’s it like playing an American Icon on the stage.

Written by Angelica Chéri and Directed by Jackie Alexander, ‘Phenomenal Woman’ will capture audiences in the deeply moving and extremely inspirational words of the incomparable Dr. Maya Angelou, as spectators they step inside her memoir and live her life’s journey through theatre.

In the play, you will have the opportunity to witness Dr. Angelou’s life at three different stages: the young Maya Angelou, Maya Angelou in womanhood, and Dr. Maya Angelou as an elder.
