May Hero: Houston healthcare worker shares her story of battling COVID-19

HOUSTON – Iris Avila worked on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic until suddenly her life turned upside down.

She went from being a dedicated patient care assistant at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center Emergency Room to one of their patients.

She shared her story with Houston Life after she spent 21 days on ECMO in Baylor St. Luke’s.
