Hermann Park is named after George Hermann.  He was a Houston real estate investor and industrialist.  In 1914, he deeded to the city 285 acres of his property for a municipal park across the street from Rice Institute.

Hermann Park is now 445-acres of green space and gets an estimated six million visitors a year.
