Restaurant Report Card: Roaches, roaches and more roaches

No description found

Health inspectors found roaches crawling on the walls and inside the food at Flower Piggy Korean BBQ at 1411 Gessner on New Year's Eve.

"I would think that would have to be a pretty severe infestation," consumer expert Amy Davis said to the restaurant manager, who identified himself as Joon.

"We had a treatment the day before," he said.

Joon said the pests come out of hiding to die after each treatment; and he thinks that's what happened.

"We believe the roaches were under chemical ... so they were just crawling around somewhere and they just got into the food serving area where we had a food container," the man told Davis.

The food was tossed, and the restaurant was closed until employees eliminated the roaches. Davis didn't see any on her visit.

At Hartz Chicken at 8247 Long Point, inspectors condemned 10 pounds of black-eyed peas that were not safe for human consumption because they were off temperature.

At Jeff's Kitchen & Meat Market at 8312 Mesa Drive, the inspector saw a rodent in the kitchen. He closed the place so exterminators could take care of the problem. Also on the East side, at Peking Chef at 816 Maxey Road, an inspector caught a cockroach near the buffet.
