POSITION OVERVIEW
The Logistics Coordinator is a key member of the central hub for our daily newsroom operations, ensuring resources are prioritized and assigned to support our content across various platforms effectively. This role involves publishing breaking news and other stories to the website, coordinating field crews, keeping track of their status and locations, and working closely with the news operations and engineering departments to ensure field equipment is operational and adequate for our needs. Problem-solving is at the heart of this role, requiring innovative approaches to logistics management and digital publishing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prioritize and allocate newsroom resources to support breaking news and daily content across broadcast and digital platforms.
- Coordinate field crews, providing real-time updates on their status and location to optimize coverage and response times.
- Collaborate with news operations and engineering departments to monitor and manage field equipment, troubleshooting and problem-solving to address any issues promptly.
- Support digital coverage by writing and editing stories with accuracy, speed, SEO best practices, and AP style.
- Implement proactive strategies and solutions to logistical and digital challenges, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
- Thinks several steps ahead as breaking news evolves, proactively anticipating which sources to contact, what information is still needed, and which angles to pursue — staying ahead of the story rather than simply reacting to it
- Other duties as assigned.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a deadline-driven newsroom.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and sound editorial judgment, particularly during breaking news situations.
- Technically savvy, with a thorough understanding of the technological needs and challenges of field operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clear and effective coordination between departments and teams.
- Skilled at verifying critical information during breaking news, anticipating story developments, and coordinating team coverage.
- Maintains composure and decision-making quality under pressure.
- Proven multi-tasking capabilities, adept at handling various operational and digital demands simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in a role requiring logistic coordination and/or digital, such as an assignment desk, digital producer, and/or multimedia journalist.
- Proficiency with ENPS, INews and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
