Massive flooding hits Houston area; tiger found wandering; Prince dead at 57

HOUSTON – The Houston area experienced historic flooding this week, which tops the list of top stories on Click2Houston.com.

Greater Houston area on alert as floodwaters remain

At least eight people have died in connection with Monday's floods in the greater Houston area, officials said.

Officials said the flooding is the worst in the area since Tropical Storm Allison.

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, the county's chief administrator, said Monday more than 1,000 homes were flooded.

"This is a rain event that's very significant, no question about it," he said. "Many of those homes haven't flooded before."

"There is water all over the place, there is flooding all over the place," Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said.

The Houston Fire Department said it completed 723 water rescues during Monday's flood event, deploying 13 boats and 19 high-water vehicles.

Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster Monday in Harris County, as well as Austin, Bastrop, Fort Bend, Colorado, Grimes, Montgomery, Waller and Wharton counties.

"A lot of rain coming in a very short period of time, there's nothing you can do," Turner said. "I regret anyone whose home is flooded again. There's nothing I can say that's going to ease your frustration. We certainly can't control the weather."

2 adults, 2 children killed in murder-suicide inside home

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said two adults and two children were found dead inside a Katy-area home after an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday morning.

The bodies were found inside a home on Longdraw Drive in the Grayson Lakes subdivision, near Cinco Ranch. Authorities said they found Jeremy Raju Srinivasan, 37, his wife, Natalie Altier Srinivasan, 35, and their children, a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, dead from gunshot wounds.

A family friend identified the children as the couple's son M.J. and their daughter Sienna, who would have turned 6 this month.

Whataburger offers free meals to first responders

Houston-area first responders worked around the clock to help people and animals during the flood disaster.

Whataburger made a nice gesture by offering all uniformed first responders a free meal at all locations across Houston through the week.

A woman also made a Whataburger run for her mother during the flooding. "I knew my mom would be working a lot, so I wanted to do something nice for her."

Caught on video: Horse rescue at Cypress Trails Equestrian Center

KPRC 2 viewer Shannon Walther captured videos of emergency crews attempting to rescue several horses stuck in high water at the Cypress Trails Equestrian Center in Humble.

"I saw two horses with water up to their heads," Shannon Walther said. "One of the horses got swept under the bridge."

Walther begged for people to help in her Facebook posts.

Tiger found wandering in Conroe neighborhood

A tiger was found wandering in a Conroe neighborhood Thursday and authorities are now looking for its owner, according to police.

The Conroe Police Department received numerous calls around 11 a.m. about the loose tiger wandering near houses in the Water Crest subdivision.

The young female tiger was found in the area of Coral Cove Pass near Longmire and League Line by a couple walking in the area.

Prince dead at 57

Pop superstar Prince, who was widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive musicians of his era with hits including "Little Red Corvette," "Let's Go Crazy" and "When Doves Cry," was found dead at his home on Thursday in suburban Minneapolis, according to his publicist.

His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told The Associated Press that the music icon died at his home in Chanhassen.
