Motel clerk shoots robbery suspect

HOUSTON – An east Houston motel clerk shot a man trying to rob him, police said Friday.

Houston police said the man attempted to rob the Interstate Motor Lodge on the East Freeway and Rockglen shortly after 12 a.m. on Friday.

According to investigators, the suspect pointed a gun at a motel clerk and demanded cash. The clerk had a gun under the counter, grabbed it and and shot the suspect, officials said.

The suspect fled on foot. The clerk tried to catch him but was not successful.

Police said they found a small blood trail.

The suspect escaped. He is believed to be wounded.
