Man who fell asleep burglarizing home near downtown Houston arrested, police say

Homeowner finds 22-year-old man asleep in guest bedroom

HOUSTON – A man is behind bars after he fell asleep while burglarizing a home near downtown Houston, police said.

Homeowner Kevin Connolly was up at 4 a.m. Tuesday preparing to head to the airport when he noticed one of his packed bags was missing.

"I thought there was a chance that I put it in the car already, so I went downstairs and it was really cold where you could tell that a window or a door was open. I knew at that point something was going on," Connolly said.

He grabbed his gun then searched each room before he found 22-year-old Christopher Provazek sound asleep in a guest bedroom.

Connolly said he tried to wake up the burglar.

"'Hey buddy. Wake up, what are you doing here?' No response. I turned the light on and took a few pictures just for giggles," Connolly said.

Provazek finally woke up when officers dragged him out of bed.

"He told me he had been framed for the job and I reminded him that he couldn't have been framed because he was wearing my jacket that he stole from me," said Connolly.

Officers found dozens of Connolly's missing items, including his dog's ashes on Provazek's front porch just a block away, next to a half-empty bottle of liquor. Connolly think the thief made multiple trips before passing out in a drunken stupor.

Provazek faces charges of burglary of a habitation.
