El Paso Tejano singer, his family gunned down by alleged hitmen in Mexico, reports say

Tejano singer Kevin Amalio Hernández and his family were gunned down inside the family’s vehicle in Chihuahua, Mexico, according to reports.

The country singer, of El Paso, was live touring in the state when he and his family were ambushed by alleged hitmen and struck by gunfire after 150 bullets pierced their Chevrolet Malibu truck on a highway, reports read.

Hernández and his wife, Marisela Sandoval were pronounced dead at the scene and their 17-year-old son reportedly died the next day at the hospital from gunshot wounds. The couple’s two other children, ages 14 and 4, were critically injured and rushed to a medical facility alongside their maternal grandmother.

The younger children are reportedly recovering from their injuries.

Local police are investigating the details and motive behind the fatal attack.

The day after the massacre, Hernández final song called “If God Takes Me With Him,” was released and includes lyrics like, “If God takes me with him you should not feel afraid, I will be protecting you, I will follow your steps, because this love is eternal,” when translated from Spanish.
