Deputies: One shot during fight between nearly 100 juveniles

HOUSTON – Law enforcement officials are on the scene of a shooting in northwest Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says a group of about 100 juveniles were congregating at around 3 p.m. Friday in the 19000 block of Sandelford when a fight broke out and several shots were fired.

According to deputies, a 19-year-old male was shot in the face and transported to the hospital by LifeFlight. No word on their condition at this time.

The fight happened at a bayou that runs behind the school in the Brentwood Village subdivision.

According to juveniles at the scene, those involved in the fight are from Cy-Lakes High School.

Luis Perez, a student at Cy-Lakes High School, said he heard rumors during class that a massive fight was planned after dismissal. It wasn't until he was walking home that he realized just how violent it would be.

"I never thought it would get to that level. I heard the shots and we saw people running," said Perez. "Me and my mom saw a guy running through the bayou holding a gun."

Several students said there was a fight the day before that a teen captured on his cell phone.

A nearby resident said Sandleford is a common place for kids to congregate and fight after school.

"It's very common to drive down the street; they'll all be standing in the middle of the street, taking their shirts off, ready to fight. Some of them pull knives out on each other. They won't get out of the road for you either," said Chris Weeks, resident

Deputies say there are no suspects at this time, however multiple teens were seen in the back of police cars at the crime scene. The investigation is ongoing.
