Lawn care workers robbed, 1 shot in NW Houston

HOUSTON – Authorities are looking for the suspect who robbed a group of lawn care workers and shot one of them in northwest Houston.

The violent robbery happened at around 12:35 p.m. Wednesday in the 7700 block of Green Lawn Drive.

"We did an extensive work of the surrounding areas, HPD and Harris County constables, we have not located the individuals at this time," said Jay Chambers with the Houston Police Department.

The lawn crew was busy trimming trees when a man approached them, pulled out a gun and demanded money.

"They got cell phones and a pack of money," said Chambers.

Manuel Juarez is one of the workers. He says his co-worker was shot in the leg during the robbery, even after they gave the man all of their cell phones and cash.

"Me, $60, and the guy who was shot $800," said Juarez, with Texas Landscape.

The shooting victim was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, but Juarez says he should be OK.

The lawn crew says this was not the first time they've been robbed.
