20-foot flames shoot from recycling facility; 2 firefighters taken to hospital with minor injuries

HOUSTON – Twenty-foot flames shot through a recycling facility in northwest Houston after it caught fire Saturday.

The three-alarm fire was reported around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 249 and Cordoba Drive, the Northwest Fire Department said.

The Northwest Fire Department was dispatched to the solid waste recycling facility and noticed heavy flames coming from the building upon arrival.

Crews said they experienced water supply issues when battling the fire, calling for aid from other departments across the county. The exact number of departments that aided in extinguising the fire is unknown. 

Officials said two firefighters were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. One suffered a twisted ankle and the other was dehydrated and suffered a minor back injury, officials said.
