Rain causes problems for some drivers in Houston's southside

HOUSTON – Some drivers say they were overwhelmed by flooded roads in several parts of our area after a flash flood warning was issued Monday evening.

The intersection of West Orem and Highway 288 in south Houston was nearly impassable after the downpour.

"At the moment, if the rain doesn't stop we're going to have a problem," said driver George Ntrakwah.

Other locations had their fair share of downpours as well.

There also was high water on the Gulf Freeway at the South Loop. Streets were also flooded in west Houston, most notably near Highway 6 and West Little York.

"It just said a flash flood warning for 8:45, but it was like 8:30 something," said driver Linda Babalola. "I left church and I'm like, 'Whoa. It really rained hard.'"

With this being the first major rain since Hurricane Harvey hit, drivers knew flooding wouldn't come close to those levels.

But still -- Monday's rain was less than comforting.

"I hope it stops because the other time it was like this it didn't stop, and we got everywhere flooded," said Ntrakwah.

The area of 288 and West Orem recorded 5 inches of rain over the course of about two hours.
