Wednesday’s Forecast:
HOUSTON – An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday across the Houston area. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb to 102°, the combination of heat and humidity will make it feel as hot as 115°. Some communities north of Houston could experience heat index values approaching 120. Limit strenuous outdoor activity, take frequent breaks in air conditioning and drink plenty of water. Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Tracking the tropics: Tropical Storm Bertha
Outer rainbands arrive in the Houston area between 6:00 and 10:00 PM. Because this is tropical rain, these storms will be strong.
There is a 30% chance of additional storms Thursday afternoon. Because of strong wind shear and dry air Houston should not get significant winds from Bertha. There is no organized flood threat, but any individual storm cell can drop a lot of rain in a short amount of time.
