Houston – Rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds are headed our way as many families wonder how do we plan for end of the year school parties for their children this week:
The Forecast at a glance:
We’re tracking a front bringing us rain, thunderstorms, damaging winds and the potential for hail - estimated rain totals 3-5+” or more in some spots as we track a long week of rain in the forecast.
Monday:
We’re tracking rain for some, not all. We’re tracking a high of 88 and mostly cloudy skies.
Tuesday:
We’re tracking a front that will bring rain and thunderstorms as we get into the afternoon and dinner time. The timing of the front will depend on when we get rain but it’s looking more like dinner time.
But the highest chance for rain is now looking like - yes, you guessed it, right around your end of the year celebration. Wednesday through Saturday - we’re hitting a higher chance for widespread rain.
Wednesday - Saturday:
We’ll be watching for a chance of showers in the morning with a higher chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon. Not ruling out the chance for rain in the overnight hours.
And as we get closer to the date - we can fine tune the areas and locations but for now - we’re giving you an idea on what to expect to help plan your week.
But before you hit the roadways this week:
Turn Around, Don’t Drown: According to the NWS: 6” of fast-moving water can knock over an adult, 12 inches of rushing water can carry most cars, and 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks — which is why we always say, “Turn around, don’t drown.” You can see it play out in our click2pins videos too!
So looking at this forecast - you’ll want to grab your umbrella. But have you ever wondered WHY you need your umbrella, outside of the obvious?! According to science.
According to the National Safety Council, rain creates slick sidewalks, parking lots and indoor floors - slip and fall incidents rise by 70% during rainy day spells.
And I found an interesting study from Northeastern University in 2022 that backs the old saying - don’t get cold and wet does in fact has medical merit. Just 15 minutes of cool air drops the temperature inside your nose by 5 degrees. Basically, cutting your nose’s virus bouncers by nearly 42% - letting twice as many viruses sneak in and multiply.
But we all know grabbing, searching and hunting is stressful and the science supports it. Every micro-decision like - should I take my umbrella adds up and drains your mental energy.
So grab it now, we’re tracking a rainy week!
