Today’s Forecast: We started our work week with another round of fog and that will be the trend for the next couple of days. Now that fog is no longer an issue, we’re tracking a mostly sunny day with high hitting 80 today. Our lows tonight will be in the 50s and 60s.
Keeping you safe on our roadways: We’re tracking fog the next couple of days.
Houston’s fog season runs strong from November through March, so your weather team is watching dew points closely. The closer the dew point gets to the actual air temperature, the higher the risk for thick fog to develop quickly.
Which can be dangerous on our roadways:
According to the Federal Highway Administration, fog contributes to more than 38,700 crashes every year across the country. When visibility drops to a quarter mile or less, it’s like driving 60 mph straight through a solid cloud on the freeway.
High beams make it worse—they reflect off the water droplets and create blinding glare right back at you. Stick to low beams—they direct light downward and forward at a lower angle and intensity, cutting through the fog much more effectively.
Despite the fog: We’re tracking sunshine:
If you’re looking forward to some spring-like weather, this is your week. Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach the upper-70s to 80 degrees making it incredibly warm for this time of year. Even though each day starts off cool, mostly in the 60s, the numbers jump quickly in the afternoon. This run of warm air is thanks to southerly winds bringing humidity straight up from the Gulf, so it’ll feel quite a bit more humid through the week as well.
Rain moves in Tuesday night and Wednesday morning:
The first chance for showers could arrive late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The bulk of the rain is expected to fall Wednesday morning in Houston, with northern areas seeing some wet weather as early as Tuesday evening. However, this round of rain doesn’t look like it’s anything more than just a light rain. Projected rainfall totals are low, mostly under a quarter inch, and as little as a trace for some coastal locations.
Your Extended Forecast:
Looking ahead, a second system moves into the area on Saturday, with the potential to bring stronger thunderstorms. While it’s too early for details, this one looks stronger. You’ll also notice there is no cold weather in this 10-day forecast. The Presidents Day holiday is dry and mild.
