HOUSTON – It has been a very hot couple of days in Houston and the surrounding area.
Houston itself topped out at 99 degrees on Tuesday.
We have one more day where we may hit 100 degrees this week, and that is exactly what we are forecasting on Wednesday.
The intense heat is thanks to a large area of high pressure right on top of Texas.
The high pressure leads to more dry air intruding into the area, and it sinks. This reduces rain chances and the dry air heats up quicker than moist area, leading to higher temperatures.
By the end of the week, the area of high pressure will begin to move out of the area, leading to a return of moisture and also the return of rainfall chances.
While it won’t be a big cooldown, high temperatures will top out a few degrees less than what they have been, mid-90s instead of upper 90s to 100 degrees.
