Sneezing? Itchy, watery eyes?

Throughout the country, winter is still taking hold. It snowed in the panhandle just the other day!

Here in Houston, however, we’re in full spring mode!

We’ve seen a quick uptick in tree and grass pollen counts across Houston over the past couple of weeks.

Here is the pollen count for Monday, March 10th:

Here’s the thing: Allergies take place all year long in Houston because of the mild and semi-tropical nature of our usual airmass, allergens are in the air all the time.

As we end winter and get further into the spring months, our weather tends to be more dynamic. Storm systems from the Pacific swing into Texas, and cold fronts drag the pollen from the Hill Country into our area.

This will be the case as we get into Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Similar to what we saw over the last few weeks and the weekend with the storms and cold front, tree pollen continues to spike! With another front coming in this Wednesday and next weekend, we’ll likely see another jump of cedar pollen with a strong west/northwest wind, especially towards the end of next weekend.

With storm system after storm system, allergens should remain higher in Houston over the next few weeks. We’re also seeing a spike in Oak tree pollen, which usually occurs as we get further into the month of March.

In addition, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo won’t be helping allergy sufferers as many of us will be picking up animal dander, sawdust, hay ... you name it while we rodeo this month!

Good luck, take care of yourselves, and don’t forget to take those allergy meds!
