That system strengthened into a tropical depression Thursday morning. It gained further steam by Thursday afternoon and became Tropical Storm Arlene.

Arlene was located about 815 miles west of the Azores.

The storm had sustained winds of 45 mph and was moving west-northwest at 25 mph.

The storm poses no threat to land.

Forecasters again said Arlene is expected to dissipate Friday when it is absorbed by a larger low pressure system.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.

Forecasters have said that a near-average season is expected.
