Your H-Town traffic breakdown!

Welcome back, Houston! This week has been quite busy in terms of traffic. I brought you information, first on “KPRC 2 News Today,” about a complete closure coming up on the 59/610 interchange project, an update on the East Beltway Ship Channel Bridge progress and a look at the current price at the pump!

First on 2: 59/610 Interchange Project Update

  • I got first dibs on new information on that huge construction project at one of the worst bottlenecks in Texas and in the nation. Of course, we’re talking about the IH-610/ I-69 Interchange Project, and this update comes in a timely manner, as we are entering the final two years of the seven-year reconstruction project. Earlier this year, the Texas Department of Transportation closed the I-69 southbound ramp that connects you to the southbound lanes of IH-610, basically the one that takes you from downtown Houston to Bellaire until further notice. TxDOT gave me a first look at the re-opening date, which will be late this year or early 2023. Go here to read more.

Progress on the Ship Channel Bridge

  • A while back, we learned a design flaw caused a big delay to fix the East Beltway Ship Channel Bridge, so the new project design will include shoulders on both side for emergencies, it will have a total of four 12-foot-wide lanes, increasing capacity to meet future demands, and the entrance points will be less steep to increase visibility for drivers. The southbound side of the bridge will open first, come 2025. For more details, go here.

AAA Texas gas prices dipping a couple pennies!

  • The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.17 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is two cents less than on this day last week and is 12 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Meanwhile drivers in California are paying the most at $5.49 on average for a gallon of regular unleaded. We’re sittin’ pretty, Texas!

If you’ll be out and about supporting our ‘Stros, remember to be careful and drink responsibly. Plan your sober ride ahead of time to keep yourself and those around you safe!

Drive safely my friends :)
