In 2016, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced that transgender people already serving in the military would be allowed to serve openly. And the military set July 1, 2017, as the date when transgender individuals would be allowed to enlist. A few weeks later, Trump caught military leaders by surprise, tweeting that the government wouldn't accept or allow transgender individuals to serve “in any capacity” in the military. But they also acknowledged that some commanders were spending a lot of time with transgender individuals who were working through medical requirements and other transition issues.

A page full of resources went live earlier this week on twc.texas.gov for both employers and job seekers who are looking for unemployment information while they are out of work. During the pandemic, TWC will waive work search requirements for job seekers. Individuals who lost their job through no fault of their own with reportable past wages can file for unemployment. How to file for unemployment:The quickest way to send your claim is on their online portal, Unemployment Benefits Service.
