Houston Mayor John Whitmire and the Office of Emergency Management announced another round of warming centers will open across the city in response to a National Weather Service forecast calling for a hard freeze this weekend.

“I visited three warming centers Wednesday night,” Mayor Whitmire said. “The operation was efficient and welcoming."

Harris County is preparing for an impending Arctic front, with Judge Lina Hidalgo announcing a readiness plan to keep residents safe and warm.

A hard freeze is coming to the Houston area next week and those who may not have shelter or a place to stay could be impacted.
