The first day of school is just around the corner, and while many students may not be ready to head back to class, plenty of parents are looking forward to the return to the classroom — as well as the chance to save money while shopping for school essentials.

Texas is offering a tax-free weekend for emergency preparation supplies, running from Saturday morning to midnight Monday.

This weekend marks the 23rd annual Sales Tax Holiday in the state of Texas. The holiday, created in 1999 by Commissioner Rodney Ellis, is intended to help parents who may be short on cash to get what their child needs for the school year.
