A baby was anonymously surrendered at a Safe Haven Baby Box at a fire station in The Woodlands Monday.

After a string of newborn abandonments in our area, officials are trying to provide women in crisis with more options to surrender their babies safely.

"Safe Haven Baby Boxes," installed at fire stations and hospitals, allow mothers to anonymously and safely surrender their newborns while giving medical personnel a better way of caring for the infant.

A firefighter in Ocala, Florida, was pulling an overnight shift at the station in January when he was awakened at 2 a.m. by an alarm.
