Houston-area high school graduations that were traditionally held in Reliant Stadium will move to Reliant Arena to accommodate scheduling demands at Reliant Park.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is investing $300 million to build a new, year-round livestock and horse facility near State Highway 288, aiming to expand educational and agricultural programming beyond the 20 days allowed at Reliant Park.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is making the largest investment in its more than 90-year history. Leaders have announced plans for a new agricultural complex along Highway 288 that will add more than one million square feet of space dedicated to livestock competitions, educational programming, youth development and year-round events. Texans raise $550,000 for charitable foundation at annual golf tournament event

KATY, Texas – After the City of Houston, Harris County and health department leaders canceled the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo due to coronavirus concerns, competition animals from across the country scheduled to be housed at Reliant Park needed to be removed from the site as well. Rodeo officials said they reached out to local partners, including Katy Independent School District, to assist with accommodating participants’ animals by providing barn shelter overnight. On Wednesday at 7 p.m., Katy ISD opened doors to their Gerald D. Young Agricultural Sciences Center, located at 5825 Katy Hockley Cut Off Rd. to all Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo participants who are in need of housing for their competition animals. Katy ISD personnel, including teachers, grounds staff and law enforcement, were on-site to greet and assist the animal guests.
