Virginia Business Owner Charged with $1.5 Million Employment Tax Fraud

A federal grand jury in Roanoke, Virginia, returned an indictment on Thursday charging a Virginia man with employment tax fraud. As executive vice president, Moore allegedly directed the companyโ€™s day-to-day management and was responsible for paying employment taxes to the IRS that Nexus withheld from its employeesโ€™ wages. Moore is charged with 10 counts of willfully failing to pay employment taxes. His initial court appearance is scheduled for a later date before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joel Hoppe of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S.

Former Ambulance Service Owner Charged with Tax Fraud

A Virginia man was arraigned today on an indictment charging tax fraud that was returned by a federal grand jury in Roanoke, Virginia, on Aug. 20, 2020. According to the indictment, from approximately 1987 through at least 2010 James C. Jones Jr., of Christiansburg, owned Lifeline Ambulance Service Inc. (Lifeline). The indictment also charges that Jones submitted false individual tax returns each year from 2013 to 2018. In addition to tax fraud, the indictment further alleges that Jones submitted false applications to the Social Security Administration that omitted his domestic and foreign rental income. Jones is charged with tax evasion, filing false individual tax returns, corruptly endeavoring to obstruct the IRS, obstruction of justice and making a false statement regarding Social Security benefits.

Thatโ€™s the case for one Roanoke man whoโ€™s known to share Wrigleyโ€™s Gum with everyone he meets. John has been in Roanoke for a few months to be by Suttieโ€™s side as his health declines. Suttie asked Sammy Oakey at Oakeyโ€™s Funeral Home to have his casket painted like the iconic gum box. And before he knew it, hundreds of packs of gum were on their way to Roanoke, and he had good news to share. Suttieโ€™s family said his health is improving, and thatโ€™s a good thing, because they need someone to give away all the gum.

The attorney who will represent the Marine who abandoned his post and is now accused of murder issued a public plea to her client. ROANOKE, Va. -- The Marine accused of killing his mother's boyfriend has been arrested after a month-long manhunt for him, according to U.S. Marshals.U.S. Marshals and Franklin County Sheriff's Office in Virginia spoke publicly about the arrest of Michael Brown at 11:30 a.m.Michael Brown is the Marine who abandoned his post at Camp Lejeune on Oct. 18. His mother's boyfriend, Rodney Brown, was then found dead in Hardy, Virginia, on Nov. 9.Since then Brown has been on the run from law enforcement.Investigators said they arrested Brown at his mother's house in Virginia around 8 a.m. "This has been an intense manhunt for the past 18 days covering three states," Sheriff Bill Overton, Jr. said.
