The horror film “The Invitation” needed just $7 million to finish at the top of the weakest weekend of the summer at the North American box office.

This week’s new entertainment releases include new albums from Ed Sheeran and The War on Drugs as well as “Army of Thieves,” a prequel to Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead,” which invites viewers to join a Europe-trotting heist.

Although the box office has yet to fully recover from the pandemic, one studio has good reason to celebrate this Fourth of July weekend.
