The American, running third most of the way behind Edvin Wide of Sweden, rushed out in the final lap to win by a big margin.

This story from the Paris Games of 1924 was published in the Aberdeen American newspaper on July 9. But William Richardson attended Stanford University and at the time the AP put in schools or clubs and referred to that particular university as Leland Stanford. The American long jumper was the first Black athlete to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
