Gone with the Wind returns to HBO Max ... with a disclaimer

Rhett and Scarlett are back on HBO Max, along with some criticism of slavery and race relations in the South that was missing from "Gone with the Wind." HBO pulled the film classic "Gone with the Wind" from its new streaming service two weeks ago in the wake of national protests against racism and deaths of African Americans at the hands of police. "Watching 'Gone With the Wind' can be uncomfortable, even painful," says Stewart. "Still, it is important that classic Hollywood films are available to us in their original form for viewing and discussion." HBO Max also included a second feature, an hour-long panel discussion filmed at the Turner Classic Movies film festival in April of 2019, entitled The complicated legacy of Gone with the Wind. Both HBO and TCM are owned by Warner Media, a unit of AT&T, as is CNN.

Queen Latifah Thinks 'Gone With the Wind' Should Be 'Gone'

Gone With the Wind will soon be available once again on HBO Max, but Queen Latifah is fine with it remaining gone. "Let Gone With the Wind be gone with the wind," she tells the Associated Press in a recent interview. Ridley recently spoke with ET about Gone With the Wind, calling it "historical fiction." ...People talk about, 'Well, if you take away the film you're erasing history, making history go away. The Civil War happened.

'Gone With the Wind' Returning to HBOMax With Introduction by African American Scholar

Gone With the Wind will be returning to HBOMax after it was pulled from the streaming service earlier this week. "HBO Max will bring Gone with The Wind back to its line-up, and when it appears, I will provide an introduction placing the film in its multiple historical contexts," Stewart explains. Right now, people are turning to movies for racial re-education, and the top-selling books on Amazon are about anti-racism and racial inequality. "Gone With the Wind is a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society. Gone With the Wind is still currently available for online rental on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube and more.
