The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office says a grand jury indictment was unsealed charging a former Los Angeles police officer in the 2015 shooting death of an unarmed homeless man.

His first major meeting upon winning his race was with Black Lives Matter organizers, who were critical of outgoing District Attorney Jackie Lacey. The Los Angeles Police Protective League, which is for rank-and-file police officers and heavily supported Lacey, blasted Gascón new policies after his speech.

LOS ANGELES – California investigators have arrested and charged a man in connection with the shooting of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies earlier this month as they sat in their squad car, authorities said Wednesday. A suspect was identified in the carjacking and photographs were compared to images from the ambush, strengthening a connection to the shooting of the deputies, Wegener said. Ballistics testing of the gun discarded during the pursuit showed it was the one used in the attack on the deputies, Wegener said. Compton is among communities near South Los Angeles, an area with a large Black population that has long been a flashpoint for racial tension and mistrust of police. LOS ANGELES The husband of the Los Angeles district attorney has been charged with pointing a gun at Black Lives Matter members who demonstrated outside the couples home the day before the primary election in March. The attorney general filed three misdemeanor charges Monday against David Lacey for assault with a firearm for the March 2 incident. Jackie Lacey, the first Black person and first woman to run the nation's largest local prosecutor's office, has been a constant target of Black Lives Matter protesters. She has charged one officer in a fatal on-duty killing, but has not filed charges in hundreds of other cases. Email messages sent by The Associated Press to her campaign and her husband's lawyer were not immediately returned.

LOS ANGELES Two men and two teens have been charged in the death of rising rapper Pop Smoke who was killed during a Los Angeles home-invasion robbery in February, the district attorneys office said Monday. Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a statement that Corey Walker and Keandre Rodgers were charged with murder that occurred during the commission of a robbery and burglary. Jonathan Tippet, who oversees the Los Angeles Police Departments elite Robbery-Homicide Division, said three men and two teenage boys likely went to the home because they knew Pop Smoke was there from social media posts. Earlier this year, Pop Smoke released the mixtape Meet the Woo 2, which debuted at No. Pop Smoke had been scheduled to start a U.S. tour in Washington, D.C., on March 2.

(CNN) Actor Danny Masterson, best known for his role on "That '70s Show," was charged with three counts of rape, Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced Wednesday. Masterson is charged with forcibly raping three women in separate incidents occurring between 2001 and 2003, a press release from the District Attorney's Office said. The people who know Mr. Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false." Authorities say Masterson, who is charged by his full name Daniel Peter Masterson, is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman between January and December 2001. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit," Masterson's statement said in the 2017 statement.
