Pandemic Golden Globes ratings plunge 64% to 6.9M viewers
Last year's show, in the pre-lockdown era, reached 18.4 million viewers, the Nielsen company said. The Academy Awards in 2020 reached a record low 23.6 million viewers, and that was also pre-lockdown. ABC had 3.9 million, NBC had 3.4 million, Fox had 2.3 million, Univision had 1.4 million, Ion Television had 1.2 million and Telemundo had 1 million. AdFox News Channel topped the cable networks, averaging 2.46 million viewers in prime time. ABC's โWorld News Tonight" won the evening news ratings race, averaging 9.5 million viewers last week.
Even more chaotic than usual, Globes still had their moments

'Nomadland,' 'Borat' win at a socially distant Golden Globes
Sheโs only the second woman in the history of the Globes to win, and the first since Barbra Streisand won for โYentlโ in 1984. Its star, guerilla comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, also won best actor in a comedy. โThe Queen's Gambitโ won best limited series, and best actress in the category for Anya Taylor-Joy. โSchitt's Creek,โ the Pop TV series that found a wider audience on Netflix, won best comedy series for its final season. Globes org says it will recruit Black members after outcry

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association said in statement Friday that an โaction planโ is under development to admit Black members. The group currently has 87 members who are journalists, but none are Black. AdAn HFPA spokesperson said it welcomes the opportunity to meet with groups such as Timeโs Up and prospective Black members who are interested in joining the organization.
'Ma Rainey,' 'Minari' and Boseman lead SAG nominations
The Screen Actors Guild has nominated the cast for a SAG Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. But the SAG Awards, presented by SAG-AFTRA, are considered a far better barometer for the Academy Awards, where actors account for the largest percentage of the academy. Usually, the eventual Oscar best picture winner is first nominated for best ensemble by the SAG Awards, though โGreen Bookโ and โThe Shape of Water" were two recent exceptions. In 2019, he memorably a ccepted the SAG ensemble award for โBlack Panther." Aside from Boseman and Oldman, the nominees for best male actor in a lead role were Riz Ahmed (โSound of Metalโ), Anthony Hopkins (โThe Fatherโ) and Steven Yeun (โMinariโ).

That movie is called โMusic,โ a fantasy musical drama with Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr. and Maddie Ziegler that marks pop star Siaโs directorial debut. Leeโs acclaimed Vietnam drama โDa 5 Bloodsโ was expected to be a shoo-in for any number of categories: Best picture, best director, best actor for Delroy Lindo or supporting actor for Chadwick Boseman, who died last year.
With โMankโ and โThe Crown,โ Netflix dominates Globes noms

Soria died peacefully at his Los Angeles home, the association said in a statement, lauding his generosity, passion and sense of humor. The Argentinian-born Soria grew up and worked in Italy for L'Espresso before becoming a Los Angeles resident in 1982. A member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association since 1989, he was in the administration for more than 25 years.
Reporter sues Golden Globes organization over member rules
LOS ANGELES A Norwegian entertainment reporter on Monday sued the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization that gives out the Golden Globe Awards, alleging that it acts as a cartel that stifles competition for its members. Reporter Kjersti Flaa, filed the lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles, saying that despite reporting on Hollywood for many prominent Norwegian outlets, she has been repeatedly denied membership in the organization. Her suit contends the HFPA consistently rejects qualified new applicants like herself whose work competes with that of existing members. The suit says "studios go far out of their way to accommodate HFPA members by inviting them to attend every industry function, event, and screening, and, most importantly, making their top producers, directors, actors, and other talent available for exclusive interviews with HFPA members." The suit says the HFPA's status as a tax-exempt California mutual benefit corporation requires it to benefit all members of the class of workers it represents.
