The closure of Funplex, a once-popular family entertainment venue, marks the latest in a series of recreational facility closures affecting Houston’s west side communities, particularly in the Alief area.

Houston has lost another landmark. After decades of roller skating, bowling, arcade games, and even a cameo in Beyoncé’s “Blow,” Alief’s iconic FunPlex has closed its doors for good. The nearly 200,000-square-foot entertainment complex has been sold to a developer, with all of its rides, games, and even the skating rink heading to auction this September.
