The family of fallen Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Erika Serrato has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a commercial driver and several companies, alleging negligence led to the 24-year-old deputy’s death while she was working a crash scene on Interstate 45.

A July 4th weekend DWI enforcement initiative held in memory of fallen Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Erika Serrato resulted in 54 intoxication-related charges, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Family, friends, fellow law enforcement officers and members of the community will gather Tuesday morning to honor the life of fallen Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Erika Serrato, who was killed while directing traffic on Interstate 45 on June 28.

Officials with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office confirms a 20-year-old man, who was the driver of the commercial truck which struck and killed a Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy over the weekend, has been arrested and charged in connection to her death.
