Texas summer pandemic food benefits for families includes a one-time benefit of $375 per eligible child
Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for a third round of federal Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) food benefits for families with children who have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you have school-aged children, you could get $285 for groceries, regardless of income. Hereโs how
The Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) was approved by the USDA for students who receive free and reduced lunches. Since some school districts, like Houston ISD, have so many low-income students that qualify for the benefit, it is offered to every student, regardless of the familyโs income. Because of a provision that we have, all HISD students receive free lunch. We checked with Houston-area school districts. If your child attends one of those schools, they can get the $285 P-EBT card.
