Say goodnight to the bad guys: Astros fall short in Game 7
(AP Photo/Jae C. Hong)SAN DIEGO โ The Houston Astros spent this odyssey of a season as baseball's biggest villains. When Aledmys Diaz flied out with a runner on first to end Game 7 of the AL Championship Series, the bad guys finally lost. โThe legacy of this group is that these guys are ballplayers, and these guys are men," said Baker, who took over the team in January. This was just a bunch of guys coming together and wanting to play damn good baseball and wanting to go to another World Series. Houston's lineup of veteran hitters simply kept slugging, and the Astros fought to the brink of the World Series.

One out later, Adell lined a two-run single to right off Enoli Paredes (1-2) for his first game-ending hit. Kyle Tucker homered and drove in three runs for the Astros, who lost in walk-off fashion for the second straight game. With two outs and runners on second and third, Martin Maldonado hit a two-run single to right-center. After Yuli Gurriel's two-run single in the third, Tucker extended the lead to 4-1 with a run-scoring infield single. It is the seventh game to start with triple-digit temperatures since the ballpark opened in 1966.
Astros Win Streak Dulled by Growing Injury List
Alex Bregman was added to the latest list of injured players on the Astros roster this week. The same day in Colorado, MVP runner up Alex Bregman left the game against the Rockies with a hamstring injury. Such is the state of not just the Astros in 2020, but baseball, where injuries have increased twofold over any normal season. Despite all that, the Astros are currently on a seven-game winning streak including a four-game home-and-home series sweep of the Colorado Rockies. For now, these Astros are fun to watch, so we should enjoy it while we can.

abc13.comVerlander, Altuve lead Astros over Rays 6-2 in ALDS opener
Getty ImagesHOUSTON - Justin Verlander looked every bit the October ace, Jose Altuve polished his postseason resume and the Houston Astros kept rolling, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 Friday to open their AL Division Series. Tampa Bay got its only hit off Verlander when Brandon Lowe singled to start the fifth. He struck out George Springer, but Altuve then tagged him for a two-run homer, lining a fastball into the left field seats. The Astros added two more runs in the seventh after Bregman walked and stole second base. Tampa Bay hit four home runs in its wild-card win Wednesday at Oakland, but did nothing until Verlander left.

Brad Peacock pitches during the first inning against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on June 21, 2019, in New York City. HOUSTON - The Houston Astros placed long relief man Brad Peacock on the injured list Wednesday, weakening an already, let's say interesting, bullpen. Getty ImagesBALTIMORE - Rookie Yordan Alvarez hit three of Houston's six home runs and drove in a career-high seven runs to help the Astros to the highest-scoring game in franchise history with a 23-2 rout of the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. The win was the eighth straight for the Astros, who became the latest team to feast on the reeling Orioles. Alex Bregman, who went 3 for 3, and Alvarez set the tone with back-to-back homers in the first inning. Alvarez added the grand slam in the seventh and a two-run shot in the ninth. The Astros took an early 3-0 lead off Orioles starter Aaron Brooks (2-6) on a two-run homer by Bergman followed by Alvarez's solo shot.
Pair of Rookie Pitchers Rescue the Astros
Brad Peacock will remain out for a while, but a pair of rookies picked up the slack over the weekend. After retuning from the All-Star break, the Astros struggled to find the right combination of pitching to make up for shortcomings thanks to injuries. First, Jose Urquidy, 24, pitched 7 innings allowing only 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 9. The two pitchers went 12 innings combining for 4 hits, 2 runs and 15 strikeouts. Also, it gave the Astros some breathing room heading into this week's showdown against the second-placed A's.
