UTMB Health Athlete of the Week: Stafford High’s Maxwell Frels excels in academics and basketball

UTMB Health Athlete of the Week honors go to Maxwell Frels from Stafford High School. A four-year varsity player and team captain, Maxwell is a leader for the Spartans on and off the court.

On the court, Maxwell’s skill and determination make him a standout, but his accomplishments go beyond basketball.

Off the court, he is on track to graduate with his associate degree—a remarkable achievement that inspires both his teammates and coaches.

“Once I get there, I feel like it’s going to be a very big accomplishment,” Maxwell said. “To possibly go to college and maybe get a master’s—that would be a big accomplishment for me.”

Stafford boys’ basketball head coach David Montano is proud of Maxwell’s impact.

“It’s a great opportunity for us, our program, to have a student-athlete like Max showing the younger guys you can excel as both a student and an athlete,” said Montano.
