A walk down memory lane: History of Astros in the LCS

HOUSTON – The Astros have been to the National League Championship Series four times in franchise history.

Obviously, since Houston has only been in one World Series, the Astros have only won the league title once.

The Astros are making their first appearance in the American League Championship Series.

2005: Astros 4 , Cardinals 2 (Roy Oswalt MVP)

Houston wins its first League Championship Series in franchise history, but eventually loses to the White Sox in the World Series. This is regarded as the best season in franchise history.

2004: St. Louis Cardinals 4, Astros 3 (Albert Pujols MVP)

After losing the first two games of the series, Houston won three straight games to take a 3-2 series lead in this one. The Astros were unable to clinch the series win in Game 6 or 7 in St. Louis. This series will be remembered for a walk-off homer by Jim Edmonds in Game 6.

1986: New York Mets 4, Astros 2 (Mike Scott MVP)

In Houston's second trip to the Championship Series, the Astros were ousted by the New York Mets. Scott was named the series MVP even though the Astros lost. Houston lost a heartbreaker in 16 innings at the Astrodome to seal their fate in this one.

Four out of five of the games in this series went to extra innings, with Houston winning ony one of them. It was Houston's first playoff appearance in franchise history.
