HOUSTON – The FIFA World Cup 2026 has brought together fans from across the world to share in the excitement of each game.
After a 1-1 draw in the Democratic Republic of Congo vs. Portugal game, where D.R. Congo scored its first goal in World Cup history, the Congolese and fans of Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal shared their reactions to such a historic moment.
“Having seen what happened today, it’s a miracle,” said Congo fan Beni Robert Lukumu. “As you can see, a lot of people didn’t expect Congo to win. We’re so excited, as you can see, the joy up there. I know even the President, the Congolese President, is here, Félix Tshisekedi, he came to attend this game, and as you can see, the joy, just...WE JUST EXCITED!”
“To be honest, it was a dream come true for my kids, myself, never been to a World Cup game, so this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I couldn’t let it go,” said Miguel Medrano. “We drove five hours from Laredo, but it was worth every mile, it was worth every dollar we spent. Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we wanted, but we still have hope that (Cristiano) Ronaldo is gonna lift one of these at the end, so this was just a little hurdle, but we still have hope that he’s gonna lift the cup.”
D.R. Congo’s next match is against Colombia on Tuesday, June 23rd, 9 p.m. at Guadalajara Stadium. For Portugal, their next match is back at Houston Stadium on Tuesday at Noon against Uzbekistan.
The next game at Houston Stadium is on Saturday between Sweden and the Netherlands at Noon.
