HOUSTON – One year after hosting the Carolina Panthers for a joint practice in Houston, the Texans will travel to practice with the NFC South squad in advance of a preseason game.
The Texans and Panthers have a preseason game Aug. 28 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
They will hold a practice together Aug. 26. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans and Panthers coach Dave Canales held a joint practice last season and felt good about the work their respective football teams got in last year.
“DeMeco and I have a lot of comfortability with each other, practicing against each other,” Canales said during a press conference Monday. “It was a fantastic, physical practice in the heat in Houston last year. And we hope to bring them in here and show them the same hospitality that they did for us.”
Additionally, the Texans plan to hold a joint practice in Houston with the Las Vegas Raiders before their preseason game Aug. 20 at Reliant Stadium.
There are ties with the Raiders through Klint Kubiak, their new head coach and the son of former Texans coach Gary Kubiak.
The Texans’ top-ranked defense will practice against rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the top overall pick of the draft and Heisman Trophy winner.
