HOUSTON – Michigan State offensive lineman Luke Newman, a standout at the East-West Shrine Bowl all-star game and the Spartans’ Pro Day, is visiting the Texans on Wednesday, per a league source.

The Texans overhauled their offensive line this offseason, including trading Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil, and are expected to further bolster the position during the draft after adding Cam Robinson, Laken Tomlinson, Ed Ingram and Trent Brown during free agency.

Newman has also met with the Detroit Lions at their training facility.

Newman (6-foot-3 4/8, 308 pounds), ran the 40-yard dash in 5.08 seconds at his campus Pro Day workout run by the Lions’ scouts. He bench pressed 225 pounds 29 times and recorded a 35-inch vertical leap, showing explosiveness. He had a 4.58 short shuttle.

A transfer from Holy Cross where he primarily played tackle and was a three-time All-Patriot League selection and earned All-American notice, Newman played left guard for the Spartans and is regarded by many NFL teams as a versatile blocker who’s a pure center.

Newman started 49 consecutive games, including 37 at left tackle for Holy Cross and a dozen starts at left guard for Michigan State.

An honorable-mention All-Big Ten selection, Newman led the Spartans with 739 offensive snaps played last season.
