HOUSTON – Will Anderson Jr. was in constant motion, a blur of activity taking place as he packed canned goods in boxes at the Houston Food Bank.
The Texans’ Pro Bowl defensive end was joined by his parents, Will Anderson Sr. and Tereon Anderson, working alongside him. Yes, Anderson was a bit embarrassed a little bit when they began dancing during the partnership with Campbell’s Chunky Soup for its third year of Chunky Sacks Hunger.

“I was a little bit embarrassed, but it’s awesome,” said Anderson, a first-round draft pick last season from Alabama named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year last season. “They’re great. It just shows what type of people they are and how they raised me and how they were raised. My parents always taught us to care for other people and be there for other people. To have them here with me was what they instilled in me. To get to see them do it in real life, it was amazing.”

In a program that partners with NFL teams and Feeding America to support families with food insecurity across the country, Chunky will donate 1,000 meals for every sack made across the NFL. So far, Anderson has 2 1/2 sacks through five games for the first-place Texans.
“That’s a blessing, man,” Anderson said. “God uses this platform that He’s given me to give back to the community. It shows how important it is on and off the field.”
The perspective that many Americans don’t know where their next meal is coming from hit home with Anderson.
“I was thinking about it, like, ‘Dang, how many people are in need of this?’” Anderson said. “To be able to give back and help and be with here with my family and the workers here it means a lot.”

Being at the Houston Food Bank reminded Anderson of visiting his father at work at a seafood warehouse.
“It’s nice, it’s wonderful,” Anderson said. “It just brought back so many memories. I just remember going in there, seeing him, how hard he worked. Coming here, to see how hard these people work, it’s really great what they do here.”
